How do I convert WebP to PNG?

Open WebP to PNG on Tools-Bench, drop in your .webp files and click Convert — PNG is already selected and needs no quality setting. Transparent backgrounds stay transparent, because PNG supports them. Download one PNG or all of them. The images are converted in your browser, so they are never uploaded. An animated WebP keeps only its first frame.

About WebP to PNG

WebP is the format many websites serve to load faster, but plenty of software still expects PNG: older photo editors, office documents, design and slide tools, and upload forms that list only PNG and JPG. PNG is also what you want for a logo, icon or sticker saved as WebP, because it keeps the transparent background that a JPG would fill with white. This converter opens preset to PNG and re-saves each WebP losslessly in your browser, so nothing is uploaded. The trade-off is size: the PNG is usually several times larger than the WebP.

How to use WebP to PNG

1
Add your WebP images
Drop in .webp files saved from websites — several at once if you like. Images with transparency are fine.
2
Keep PNG selected
PNG is lossless, so there's no quality to set. Pick JPG instead if the image is a photo and a smaller file matters more than transparency.
3
Convert and download
Each image shows its new size; download the PNGs one by one or all together.

Frequently asked questions

Will the transparent background be kept?
Yes. PNG stores transparency, so transparent and semi-transparent pixels — soft shadows, smooth edges — come out looking just as they did in the WebP. That's the main reason to choose PNG over JPG, which fills them with white.
Why is the PNG so much bigger than the WebP?
Most WebP images on the web are compressed lossily, while PNG stores every pixel without loss. A photo can easily grow several times in size; flat graphics such as logos and icons grow much less. If size matters and you don't need transparency, WebP to JPG gives a far smaller file.
What happens to an animated WebP?
The PNG is a still image, so only the first frame of the animation is saved. This converter doesn't make animated PNGs or GIFs.
