How do I convert a JPG to PNG?

Open JPG to PNG on Tools-Bench, drop in your JPGs and click Convert — PNG is already selected and needs no quality setting. Download each PNG or all of them. The PNG keeps the image exactly as it is and won't degrade when re-saved, though it's usually larger. Nothing is uploaded; it all runs in your browser.

About JPG to PNG

PNG stores every pixel exactly, so a PNG can be edited, annotated and re-saved again and again without picking up new compression artifacts — something a JPG loses a little of each time it's saved. That makes PNG the right format when an image is going into a design tool, a document template or a site that only accepts PNG. This converter opens preset to PNG and re-saves each JPG in your browser. One honest limit: converting can't remove blockiness the JPG already has, and the PNG will usually be larger.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. PNG keeps the image exactly as it is now, including any compression artifacts the JPG already has. What it prevents is further loss: you can edit and re-save a PNG as often as you like.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
No — a JPG has no transparency to carry over, so the background stays as it is. To cut out the subject, use Remove Background, which gives you a PNG with a transparent background.
Why is the PNG bigger than the JPG?
Lossless compression keeps every pixel, so a photo saved as PNG is often several times the size of the JPG. That's the price of an image that doesn't degrade when it's saved again.
